Remembering the initial discussions of “I don’t like my house” to a text I received since project completion…”Thank you!! I love being at home now thanks to you…”

I was so excited when the hexagonal floors presented, finally became the choice for this project. They then took on a new life with the installer, when I was challenging them to install in literally 1/2 of the first floor. A nod to Europe and the homes that house hexagonal floors and plaster walls; it was a departure of the norm and trend happening in residential Vermont. However, we felt it would be a timeless, beautiful and practical solution to the current flooring and damaged wood entryway. Little did we truly know that beloved detail, among others, would bring extra joy into the home, on top of its timeless beauty and practicality. Mission Accomplished.

Pictures from clients travels had been stored away; now carefully framed and hang on painted home gallery walls.

A new stair runner and entryway light fixture greet guests as they enter the front door. A new dinning room light now hangs over the families dinning room table.

BATHROOM REMODEL, Lang Farms, Essex Junction, VT

Looking to create an oasis for relaxing and expand the size of their shower; we discussed all of the wants and needs, including warming the space that was located over the garage.

Utilizing a former closet nook, we designed a custom vanity and painted it with the perfect Dark Chocolate hue. A Vermont Danby Marble counter top was just what we needed to complete the look. We were able to maximize floor space, heat the floors and create a 5 diamond resort bathroom retreat.

Timeless Casual Elegance, makes this South Carolina Kitchen the perfect combination for a well-traveled family. Handmade tiles, paired with timeless classics; a porcelain farm sink, glass knobs and oil rubbed bronze accents. Throw in a few unexpected elements of bling and that is what makes this kitchen warm, inviting and the perfect mix.

The beautiful kitchen flows into a spacious family area. Complete with a reclaimed wood table, just right for the space. The table is surrounded by an eclectic mix of chairs, provided by the homeowner. We haven't decided yet on the final chair selection, so we are using what we have. With any large project it is often best to use what you have, live in the space and let it be a transformation in progress.

The dinning area opens to a family relaxation space complete with the perfect mix of tradition, casual and whimsy. Enjoy!

Repurposing a bedroom into a bathroom retreat! This project is full of fun creative changes; we converted the homeowners yard sale find into a vanity, used the old floor boards and made them into sliding closet doors! Heated the new tile floor! It is so awesome to work with talented and gifted carpentry artists! Amazingly wonderful people! I am blessed!

CHILDREN BATH, JERICHO, VT

When the couple of this Post and Beam home were presented to me through Lewis Creek Company; I was given the task of creating a Children's Bath for their daughter and son; One that would grow with them.

It is always fun to present and move forward with a classically whimsical design; both pleasing to the adults in the family and the children.

UNDERHILL KITCHEN UPDATE

Homeowners didn't have it in the budget to replace their existing kitchen cupboards. But wanted to bring their green laminate counter tops and dated space more into their style. Homeowners like the industrial loft, big city feel. Dekton Trillion was just the ticket. The gold tones played off their existing cabinets and floors while the aged steel was just enough edge to update the country kitchen! Pairing with a new glass backsplash and soon to be painted walls. Made an economical needed facelift and a happy family!

WINE ROOM, Charleston, SC

This room was designed with great care and the details extracted from Old World Spain. The Bodega, or wine cellar, is a gathering space to enjoy friends, family, wine, and good conversation. Special construction design details, such as the ceiling in this room, are some of the extra details E. Fay can provide.

Choosing the look for your exterior can be a challenging task. Especially if an Architectural Review Board has to approve prior to the construction of the home. E. Fay can help you make this process a quick and simple one.

Sometimes it is necessary to reconfigure a space and the flow of traffic to make it fit better for your needs. This certainly was the case for this kitchen. We even removed the laundry from the kitchen and changed the doorways to gain more usable space and function.

REMODEL, BUTLER FARMS, South Burlington, VT

Located in South Burlington, VT, the family of four wanted to make their space their own. After living in the home for years with the previous owners design, it was time to make a change. We created an open floor plan and family friendly spaces.

The warmth of cherry cabinets and the beauty of oiled floors, took this once formal, wall paper clad home, to an inviting family friendly space.

Unused areas were transformed to functional spaces for all family members to enjoy. See the built-in desk area created for the children to study and create.

REMODEL Minneapolis, Minnesota

A dated kitchen decor and not to mention an unused formal living room. They wanted usable entertaining space and a gourmet kItchen. The task was deemed to create what we called an Upscale Tuscany infused kitchen. Merging "HER" French Country and "HIS" New York Bowery Style, sprinkled with their love of the Tuscany Region made this an award winning mix.

My favorite piece of the mix, dreaming the idea for the beer bottle colored glass custom made table.

The newly placed dinning room called for new look, suggesting a nod to the famous Oak Room in New York, was just the right direction.

FACE LIFT-CAPE COD, MA

When you inherit a family love, sometimes you need to be patient with a redesign. Not wanting to embark in a total overhaul, but in need of a facelift we set out on a long distance challenge.

The home is not only a family staple in the summer months, but shared as a rental property for many to enjoy. Durability, comfort and not loosing the family charm were all taken into consideration.

At Ellen Fay designs, we believe design with and for things we love is a must. Economics are always taken into consideration. What is practical, both in time and finances.

Durable Fabrics on furniture, and Washable indoor/outdoor carpeting, all are good choices when needing a family friendly place for entertaining.

Dated wallpaper, under time constraints, can be sealed and painted over to allow for an updated look, and very little demolition time needed.

Retro Teal countertops, fell under One of Ellen's signature design theories, "Design with it, like you mean it". After a trip to the local paint store, inspired a find of shaped "Frog Tape" a new design was inspired for the beach cottage kitchen. Out with the dated floral wallpaper and in with the whimsical ocean waters. Making this retro kitchen feel new again.

FAMILY SPACES, PLYMOUTH, MN

When a young family starts to expand, the family spaces need to grow as well. The youngest had been the baby for quite sometime and the news of a family addition would be an exciting transition. We helped her make her move from "the baby" to the "big sister".

Hand painted oversize flowers to match her bedspread. The perfect shade of bunny nose pink, a few custom art pieces, and repurposing her parents old whicker furniture, made this space fit for a princess.

The unisex bathroom color palette was inspired by a family favorite cartoon character. We painted the vanity white and installed a new timeless denim blue floor.

The new baby "Ford" was blessed with a blue and chocolate brown room, so he would be able to transform from baby to toddler with ease. A great find at a local salvage shop, helped solidify the space.

POWDER ROOM

Unexpected details in this main floor powder room make it a must visit to wash your hands before dinner. Bright Red walls, crown molding, museum quality paintings, custom vanity and display shelves in "Rasin" are a welcome change to the expected features in a powder room.

UPDATED POWDER ROOM ESSEX JUNCTION, VT

Bead board wainscoting and a few cans of chalkboard paint, make this bathrpom the perfect place to write on walls! With the original shower tile still in tact, it was hard to determine which direction this small space should take. We went with whimsical and fun. With a house full of teenagers, why not encourage writing on the walls!

We added wainscoting and tinted the floor grout to make it lighter. The small sliding shower door was replaced with a frameless door, not only updating the space, but adding light to the small shower.

The pedestal sink, toilet and fixtures and tile are all original to the space.

VACATION HOME

Rustic and relaxed design details for this new construction vacation retreat, were a must have. Reclaimed beam from a local warehouse, tung oiled floors, floor to ceiling windows craftsman style elements.
